'As a trans and queer artist, I am a passionate advocate for greater diversity in the classical music world and welcome all opportunities to collaborate with artists who experience marginalisation and exclusion.'

Soprano

'I am frustrated with the lack of diversity in the professional choral world, having personally been on several deputy lists for various professional choirs, yet never seeing diverse performers on the stage for said choirs. I am thoroughly looking forward to working with a choir who will not just have diversity on a ‘list’, and at the forefront!'

'The concept of a choral group which focuses on diversity really appeals to me. Having lived in South London for 20 years I'm so aware of the amazing diversity of people and cultures in this country but am saddened that this doesn't seem to be reflected in our classical music culture.'

Tenor

'My involvement with Vox Urbane is built upon a firm belief that peoples of all kinds can find joy, sing together, and share in every culture for the greater good of community.'

'The more diversity we have ...the more depth and understanding we gain, and the more we can learn from each other as individuals to build a rich and inclusive musical community.'

Bass

'I am super excited to be singing with Vox Urbane and to be joining such a diverse and talented group of singers. Promoting diversity in choral music and singing is so important, now more than ever. I can’t wait to see how we can engage and inspire the next generation of budding young singers, wherever they may be!'

'My varied experiences have seen me work as an advocate for National Foster Care Day, having been fostered between 11 and 16, and run 15 marathons, raising in excess of £30000 for various mental health charities, a cause close to my heart.'

'Growing up in the heart of South East London, the inequality with which musical and educational opportunities were afforded was hard to ignore. It was alarming that in a city so culturally rich, the classical music scene could remain such a monoculture. It is therefore thrilling to have become part of an ensemble that holds values of diversity and inclusion at its core, rather than as turning to them as an afterthought.'

'I am thrilled to be a founder member of Vox Urbane, and excited by this new venture with lovely colleagues all at different stages of their careers.  I feel that it’s important for aspiring singers from all walks of life to reach for their dreams, and I hope that I can share the understanding that I have gained in doing so.

Soprano

'I regularly mentor young people moving into the world of work on how to navigate the vicissitudes of being self-employed and having to pitch oneself constantly. I’m excited to bring that to the work of Vox Urbane too, and hope that I can provide some of the self-assurance and mentorship to the next generation that a younger version of me would have so benefited from!'

'Living in London my entire life, the difference between the people I meet daily and the people I sing with can be painfully stark. As the son of a British father and a Trinidadian mother, I am delighted to be part of a musical movement that reflects the diversity and inclusion I would like to see in the world of classical music.'
